Q & A ... with Freedom’s Alec Bove

Alec Bove will be attending the University of Pittsburgh and I will be majoring in computer science.

1. With the spring season over and plenty of time to sink in, what are your thoughts or emotions about not being able to play your senior year?

“When I first heard the news of not being able to play my senior season I was sad and it was extremely depressing. As a team we have lifted since November and had many practices and even one scrimmage before it was canceled; we were all excited. I’m still sad I won’t be able to play a whole season with all my friends, or experience a senior night game, but as I look back I’m just thankful for all the memories this sport and program have given me during my time at Freedom.”

2. What were you looking forward to the most this season?

“I was looking forward to playing the sport I love with all of my teammates. We created a strong bond together over the years and there would not have been a dull moment throughout the season. We clicked and it would have been fun to make a run for a district championship.

3. What activity did you find yourself doing the most during quarantine?

“The activity I spend the most time during my day is playing video games. I’m honestly playing way too much, but it’s one way I can spend time with my friends.

4. What do you miss most about normal life?

“Quarantine has surprisingly made me miss school. I’d rather stay up later and sleep in, but I miss seeing everyone and having a normal class rather than all of the online learning.”

5. If you had the choice to be stuck at home with any teammate(s) during this quarantine, who would they be and why?

“I honestly am not able to just pick one or a few teammates to be stuck inside with. I miss my whole team and everybody brings a different aspect to the table so if everyone was together it would be a great time.”

6. Can you name your favorite movie, show or series you’ve watched over the past months?

“I’m a big fan of The Office and I’ll tend to watch that show in excessive amounts when I’m bored. I’ve also recently debated if I should watch Stranger Things all over again.”

7. What was the worst part about being stuck at home?

“The worst part about being stuck at home is hearing that quarantine [continued] to be extended. I feel like I’ve been waiting for such a long time, and right when we become close to gradually living a normal life, a new date [emerged] and we are stuck inside even longer.”

8. What’s the first thing you would want to do after quarantine?

“Once quarantine is over the first thing I’m going to do is go see my girlfriend. I definitely want to make plans to hangout with my friends as well.”

9. Can you tell your favorite sports story about yourself, your team or your teammates over the years?

“One of my best baseball memories in high school would have to be an away game against Pleasant Valley my sophomore season. We were down the entire game but eventually tied it to force extra innings. We then won in nine innings. This game was a full team effort and we never backed down, and continued to bring intensity. This was the mentality we were going to bring this season.”

10. What lesson(s) have you learned throughout this whole process?

“From the quarantine aspect I have learned that we have to stay patient and respectful. Although it’s not the best feeling to be stuck inside for multiple months at once, it is for the greater good and everyone should be able to respect that. No one’s life is more important than someone else’s.”
