Northwest seniors still hope to swim

Northwest Swim Club’s summer swim team seniors Treasa Burke, Abby Mack, and John Jones are holding out hope for an abbreviated summer swim season as Pennsylvania’s counties move from red to yellow to green per instructions from Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf.

“I hope so because it’s my last year,” said Burke.

Burke swims almost every event in summer swim meets, including relays.

“[Coach Reik Foust] sends us cardio workouts and high intensity interval training, but it’s definitely more fun when we’re doing it together,” she said. “I’m finding new ways to keep busy, but it’s hard.”

Foust happened to be driving by Burke’s house recently, when he told her and her parents he’s planning to have practice as soon as he gets the green light.

“Once a week, he checks in with all of us,” said Burke. “I just miss hanging out at Northwest. We would have practice in the morning and then go out for breakfast. I talk to John every day, and I think we’re all hopeful.”
