Philly homicide suspect found

Police, during a traffic stop May 19, identified and arrested a Philadelphia man wanted in a homicide investigation.

Officers stopped a Jeep Cherokee at the intersection of West Fourth Street and South New Street for a traffic violation, and one of the occupants identified himself as a “Kamar Brown,” age 25, of Philadelphia, who attempted to flee on foot.

He was captured, tried to escape again, and was recaptured.

“Kamar Brown,” was positively identified as Marquis Mathis, 25, of Philadelphia. He was wanted by Philadelphia Police for criminal homicide and was listed as one of “Philly’s Most Wanted.”

Mathis is charged with fugitive from justice, escape and false identification to law enforcement. He will be arraigned before a Northampton County District Justice and committed to Northampton County Prison as a fugitive pending court action.
