Overdose death arrest made

Police have arrested Tomas Santos, 30, of East Sixth Street for his involvement in a drug overdose death which occurred in March.

Around 8:10 a.m. March 29, police officers responded to a report of an unresponsive female in a vehicle parked in the WaWa lot at 741 E. Broad St., and emergency responders determined she was deceased.

In early May 2020, the Northampton County Coroner ruled, after toxicology testing, that the female died as a result of an accidental overdose of Fentanyl.

Through investigation, a search of the female’s vehicle was conducted which resulted in the seizure of suspected controlled substances. Surveillance footage was reviewed and showed the female meeting a male in a red Ford Focus at the WaWa March 28 at 5:10 p.m. and a transaction occurring.

An investigation of cell phone communications conducted at the David Petzold Digital Forensics Lab at DeSales University, in Lehigh County, provided corroborating communications.

Santos was identified as the male in the red Ford Focus, and on May 18, search warrants were served on Santos and his residence.

Santos is charged with Drug Delivery Resulting in Death (Felony 1) and Delivery of a Controlled Substance (Felony).

Santos was committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
