St. John’s Lutheran deals with alternative ways to worship

To the Editor:

In these unprecedented and uncertain times we are facing the slow spreading of the pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) in the nation and in the world.

St. John’s Lutheran Church Council, Fogelsville, decided to cancel all church services and programs through April 30.

The current pandemic is creating and challenging the way we will do worship, especially since we are not going to meet at the church building for worship during Holy Week through Easter.

On March 22, Organist Beth Stottmeister and I provided an alternative worship on Facebook Live.

The account used was my Facebook page - Nelson Quiñones.

In matters of minutes, the message was shared with St. John’s Lutheran Youth Group Facebook page.

This account is managed by Theresa Muick.

If you have a Facebook account, send a request to be added to St. John’s Lutheran Youth Group account or to my account.

This will give you access to worship.

We hope you join us on Facebook Live 10-10:30 a.m. Sundays.

There’s confusion and lack of clarity before us in the nation and in the world.

Many don’t know what to do, what to think, or what to believe.

Perhaps you have heard the phrase, “I don’t know what the future holds but I know who holds the future.”

In this season of Lent, we can continue with our prayers for a cure to this virus, for the protection of health care workers who venture without days off to assist the sick, for national and world leaders to work with another.

We can put our thoughts on God and one another. There’s where we are as Christians.

On March 22, in our alternative worship broadcast, organist Beth Stottmeister began and ended with the hymn “If You But Trust in God to Guide You” by Neumark.

Believe and trust in God to guide us. In the meantime, keep washing your hands. As you do, pray the Lord’s Prayer.
