First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua hosted its first-ever talent(less) show March 7.
The evening of family-friendly entertainment was open to parishioners and the general public, with an admission charge of $5, which the Rev. Christy Kass said would likely just cover their costs for the night.
Members of Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua were invited and encouraged to participate as well.
Handmade decorations transformed the church’s first-floor meeting space into a 1990s cafe. The candlelit cafe tables and a brick-wall backdrop on the stage created a comfortable atmosphere where parishioners could perform and enjoy themselves.
Like any good church event, this was all made complete by a bountiful table of baked goods, sweets and coffee.
The show included a variety of acts including singers, musicians and even a little stand-up comedy.
Some performers were used to the spotlight, like church pianist Megan Justice who performed Bette Midler’s “The Rose.”
Others were not so comfortable on the stage and really felt the pressure of standing up in front of the crowd of 55 people. The audience, however, was welcoming and encouraged all of the performers to do their best.
Most importantly, everybody had a great time, which hopefully means the show can become a continuing tradition.
