Senior boys want to extend their season
The eight seniors on the Northampton boys basketball team will look to extend their high school careers when they take on Liberty in a District XI 6A quarterfinal game on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Easton.
The 14-8 K-Kids last played on Feb. 3 when they beat Central Catholic 71-45.
The #2 seeded Hurricanes boast an impressive resume, finishing the regular season at 18-4 with a 14-2 record in the EPC. They lost to Allen in the final of the EPC tournament.
Liberty’s star player is 6-4 senior forward Will Harper. Harper was named a second team EPC all-star this season after having been a third-team all-star last year.
Northampton will need one of its main scorers to come out with a hot hand if they expect to keep pace with the Hurricanes. Sophomore Isaac Harris is the team’s leading scorer at 12.6 points a game. Senior Donte Rodriguez is not far behind at a 12.4 ppg clip. Senior and third team EPC all-star, Zac Gula, averaged 11.4 points a game while playing through several injuries. Spencer Cole is the team’s leading 3-point shooter making 43 shots at a 38.1-percent clip.
The Kids will also need contributions from their key role players. Jake Christman (4.5 ppg), Jon Altomare (3.0 ppg), Jared Saul (2.5 ppg), and Joe Kerbacher (1.8 ppg) were all part of Northampton’s regular rotation and saw action in each game this year.
If the K-Kids pull off the upset, they will play the winner of #3 Easton and #6 Parkland on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The time and site are TBD. In their most recent games against Easton and Parkland, Northampton dropped a pair of 5-point decisions, 66-61 against Easton and 57-52 versus Parkland.
The second quarterfinal contest at Easton on Saturday features top-seeded Allen against the winner of the Whitehall vs. Pocono Mountain West preliminary round game. Ticket prices are $7 at the gate.
