Rehearsals to start March 3

Emmaus Chorale

The Emmaus Chorale is seeking additional voices for its spring concert, “It’s a Grand Night for Singing.” Weekly rehearsals begin 7 p.m. March 3 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St., Emmaus, and will culminate in a public concert at the church, set for 3 p.m. June 7.

All voice parts, particularly low voice, are welcome.

This 45-member community choir, which is based in Emmaus, is open to participants throughout the Lehigh Valley. Auditions are not required. Membership is $25 per rehearsal set.

The Emmaus Chorale, led by its artistic director, Janet Davis, will present a spring concert celebrating the sheer joy of singing, including a variety of Broadway, spiritual, worship and classics from Irving Berlin, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Vincent Youman, Richard Rutter and others. Rutter’s raucous “Cantate Domino,” a favorite of choristers and audiences alike, will be one of many highlights.

Davis is particularly known for her inventive programming and her on-the-spot technical voice training. She has a master’s degree from Westminster Choir College, where she has also taught. She previously directed Des Moines Choral Society, where, in 2000, she was recognized as Best Performing Artist by Iowa Arts Council for her accomplishments. She made her conductor debut at Carnegie Hall in June 2001 with Stravinsky’s “Symphony of Psalms.”
