James “Ted” Meixell, 78, of Bethlehem, died Feb. 4, 2020. He was the husband of Judith E. (Geyer) Meixell for 55 years.
He was a son of the late Faye (Yost) and James F. Meixell.
He graduated from Liberty High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Moravian College and a master’s degree from Kutztown University.
He taught at Liberty and Freedom high schools before becoming a sportswriter with The Morning Call. He was named the 1987-88 Pennsylvania Wrestling Sports Writer of the Year.
He was inducted into the District XI Wrestling Hall of Fame as a writer and the Blue Mountain League Hall of Fame as a player.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Tod Meixell and his wife Lori of Kutztown and Scott Meixell and his husband Paul of Philadelphia; a brother, Alan Meixell of Lower Macungie; a sister, Wendy Meixell of Northampton; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Kyra Meixell.
He was predeceased by a brother, Peter Meixell.
