Boys close out season with win over CCHS
The Northampton boys basketball team closed out their regular season in style with a 71-45 win at Allentown Central Catholic. In the process, the K-Kids snapped the Vikings 16-game winning streak.
Northampton swept the season series with Central by a combined score of 132-95. The Vikings were 19-1 against the rest of their opponents with their other loss by 1 point to Parkland.
Spencer Cole was the star of the game as he scored 30 points by making 10 threes, including 4 in the first quarter. The numbers of points and threes were personal bests for the sharpshooting senior.
The Kids led 19-7 after the first period and never looked back. They led by 19 at the half and by 28 after three quarters.
Donte Rodriguez, Jake Christman, and Isaac Harris all had 12 points.
Northampton finished the regular season with a 14-8 record, 8-8 in the EPC.
Allen’s win over Bethlehem Catholic on Tuesday left four schools tied at 8-8 for the final playoff spot in the EPC tournament. Northampton, Pocono Mountain West, Beca, and Whitehall are the teams.
The tiebreaking procedures are messy, especially when four teams are involved. It seemed that the eighth team would be either Northampton or Beca, and it ended up the Hawks took the finals spot.
For districts, Northampton will possibly be seeded 7th. Only 9 teams have qualified in 6A this year, so the Kids will go directly into the quarterfinals, unlike last year when they were seeded 10th.
If they do hold the 7th seed, their opponent will be again be either Allen or Liberty, whichever gets the second seed. The game will be on Saturday, Feb. 22.
This is also the day of the individual district wrestling finals, so fans of the orange and black will have to hope for an afternoon start for the basketball game.
