‘Disruptive’ students removed from game

Whitehall High School boys basketball games were canceled Jan. 28 after several high school students in attendance became disruptive and police were called, according to a statement released by the Whitehall-Coplay School District.

Whitehall Police Department reported that, during the WHS junior varsity game, a disturbance prompted a school administrator to ask a juvenile to leave the property. The juvenile refused.

Township police officers were then asked to assist. The juvenile refused numerous requests by officers to leave, police said. When officers attempted to take the juvenile into custody, they were surrounded by other juveniles who “physically attempted to block the officers from a lawful arrest,” according to Whitehall Police Lt. Gregory Bealer.

Officers from multiple agencies responded to assist in controlling the area.

Bealer said four juveniles were taken into custody.

According to the WCSD statement, police were expected to be on the campus Jan. 29 as a precaution.

The investigation will continue to identify any other juveniles involved, Bealer said.

Witnesses are asked to contact Whitehall police at 610-437-3042 to give statements or to provide cellphone video to assist in the investigation.
