Girls going about business
Northampton’s girls’ basketball team simply isn’t bothered by their surroundings. The Konkrete Kids quietly and efficiently posted a 14-3 record through their first 17 games, and haven’t been fazed by their secure district berth.
“This team isn’t bothered by any pressure, and they just go out and play,” said head coach Jeff Jacksits about his team. “That’s what it is all about.
“They really like playing together, and they really don’t worry about what their record is. One of them asked me last week if we qualified for districts. They are just going out there and getting the job done.”
After a 45-37 loss to Freedom Jan. 4, the Kids are on a six-game winning streak as they begin the final phase of the season against divisional opponents.
Jacksits hopes his club can maintain their level of play.
“We had a nice win against Easton,” added Jacksits. “We have been beating the teams from the Northern Division (of the East Penn Conference).
“We have to keep the peddle down on teams. We can go out and get a nice lead and then let teams back in.
“We have to put teams away.”
Junior Morgan Sterner, the oldest returning starter, is the Kids’ leading scorer, but balance has been their key to success. Freshman Grace Lesko has been a solid contributor throughout on a young club.
“We have had a number of girls who have lead us throughout the year,” said Jacksits. “We have a number of sophomores who saw a lot of time last year, and we don’t consider them young players anymore.
“Lesko is doing a great job and still learning. She will be a pretty dominant player in the league.”
The Kids will travel to Whitehall Tuesday and Emmaus Friday.
