Richard D. Schaadt
Richard D. Schaadt, 91, of Fellowship Community, Whitehall, died Jan. 13, 2020, at Above and Beyond at The Knights, Allentown. He was the husband of Nancy J. (Nagey) Schaadt for 54 years.
Born in South Whitehall Township, he was a son of the late Monroe H. and Margaret (Wetherhold) Schaadt.
He was a South Whitehall High School graduate where he was captain of the league-winning basketball team his senior year. He was a 1951 Muhlenberg College graduate. He earned a master’s degree at the Stonier School of Banking, Rutgers University.
He was in the U.S. Army Security Agency in Korea until his discharge in 1953.
He was the vice president of mortgage loan administration for the former Meridian Bank, which merged with First National Bank of Allentown, at the time of his retirement in 1990.
He was a member and a 35-year treasurer of the Trojan Alumni Varsity Club.
He was a member of Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orefield, where he sang with the choir.
He sang in numerous choirs in his lifetime. He supported classical music in the Lehigh Valley and was a supporter of environmental causes.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Jennifer C. Schaadt of Bluffton, S.C., Susan E. Youngs and her husband Christopher of Coopersburg and Amy K. Readshaw and her husband Harry of Coraopolis; a son, Richard D. Schaadt and his wife Anne Ozolins of Brandywine, Md.; a brother, Dalton M. Schaadt; and seven grandchildren, Amanda Youngs, Katie Youngs, Elizabeth Readshaw, Frances Readshaw, Harrison Readshaw, Sophie Schaadt and Richard Schaadt.
There will be a memorial service 11 a.m. Jan. 27 at Zentz Community Center, Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall.
