K-Kids knock off Rovers
On Saturday night, the Northampton wrestling team faced Easton in a regular season dual meet for the first time since 2015. The K-Kids came away with a 45-16 win over the Rovers in their final tune up before the Wednesday night showdown with Nazareth.
Head coach Seth Lisa summed up the match.
“They’re a good team,” he said. “They’re well-coached. Our conditioning looked good. We did a good job in fending off bonus points and we caught some bonus through the middles. I’m proud of the effort.”
A combination of Riley Gallagher’s injury at 182 and an Easton forfeit at 106 resulted in several wrestlers competing at weights higher than has been typical this season.
The meet started at 220 where Makei Hubert held returning district medalist Matt Cruise to a 3-1 decision.
Blake Lambert put Northampton on top with 10-2 major decision at 285. Lambert scored a takedown and three near-fall points in the final 16 seconds of the bout to earn the bonus point.
Josh Seeley got the forfeit at 106.
Carson Wagner bumped up to 113 to take on Braxton Appello, last year’s district and regional champion at 106. An Appello takedown halfway through the first period was the difference, as the only other scoring in the 3-1 bout were escapes to start the second and third periods.
Gunnar Wagner dropped a 6-2 decision at 120 that brought Easton back to within one team point in the match, 10-9.
Noah Reichelderfer used a takedown, a reversal, and a strong ride to get the K-Kids back on track with a 4-2 decision at 126.
At 132, Dagen Condomitti recorded a fall in 5:28. He had dominated the bout and was up 9-0 before finishing off his opponent. Northampton led 19-9 at the match’s halfway point.
Ethan Szerencsits racked up 6 takedowns in earning a 13-4 major decision at 138.
CJ Fritz had a pair of three-point near-fall moves as part of 20-4 tech fall at 145.
At 152, Colby Judd needed exactly 4 minutes to complete his 15-0 tech fall.
Wrestling two weight classes above his normal tournament weight, Jagger Condomitti pinned his opponent in 5:15. The bout score was 20-7 at the time of the fall. The win put the team score at 39-9 and clinched the match.
At 170, Easton trotted out their other 2019 district and regional champion. Dom Falcone had taken those honors at 182 last year and Jared Russell stepped up from his customary 160-pound spot to do battle. Falcone prevailed 12-3.
Traisach Roland also found himself wrestling up against a past district and regional placewinner in Isaiah Reinert at 182. Roland held his own, trailing 4-3 after an escape to start the second period. Reinert got a takedown and third-period reversal to take an 8-3 decision.
Kyle Perl put an emphatic close to the night with a pin in 46 seconds at 195.
