George E. Dettmer Jr., 78, of Moore Township, died Dec. 25, 2019, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg, N.Y. He was the husband of Judith E. (Wirth) Dettmer for 59 years.
Born in Cherryville, he was a son of the late George E. and Mildred (Kleppinger) Dettmer Sr.
He was a pilot and a welder at Bethlehem Steel. He owned and operated the former Dettmer’s Repair Shop and managed Bath Hardware for many years. He was a three-term Pennsylvania State constable and was a notary public.
He was a member of Bethany Wesleyan Church, Cherryville.
He was a member of Nimrod Hunting Club and of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, George E. III of Fulton, N.Y.; three daughters, Lorri L. Zeravsky of Moore Township, Susie A. Dettmer and her husband Michael Cantrel of Bath and Bonnie B. and her husband Dan Pritchard of Bell Buckle, Tenn.; three brothers, the Rev. Paul, Mark and Russell; three sisters, Rose Chamberlain, Ruth Blose and June Ingersoll; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
