Christina O’Donnell, of Kutztown, Class of ’20, a member of the field hockey team, was one of two student-athletes named an Elmira College Athlete of the Week, following the first weekend of action in the 2019 fall sports season.
O’Donnell played a significant role for the Soaring Eagles in their 2-1 season-opening victory against King’s on Aug. 30.
Playing on the road in Wilkes-Barre, the senior goalkeeper made an outstanding 16 saves, while surrendering just a single goal, as the Monarchs outshot the Purple and Gold by a 31-to-5 margin.
Seven of her stops came in the first quarter, a period in which King’s registered a game-high 15 shots.
O’Donnell held the opposition off the board for the final 32:45 to preserve Elmira’s one-goal lead.
