DA welcomes Alvarez

District Attorney Jim Martin has announced that, as of Oct. 14, Tony Alvarez of Bethlehem joined Martin’s staff as an Assistant District Attorney.

He graduated from the State University of New York-The College of Oneonta with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and earned a Juris Doctorate from Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law.

He was a judicial intern for the Honorable Charles J. Cunningham III of the Court of Common Pleas, Philadelphia. He was a Certified Legal Intern in the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office and then was a Certified Legal Intern and Co-op Student with the Office of the Philadelphia County District Attorney. He became an Assistant District Attorney where he worked in the Major Trials Division until joining D.A. Martin’s staff.

Ebersole named AMA vice president

Northampton Community College (NCC) Professor of Mathematics Dennis Ebersole, of Emmaus, has been elected the Mid-Atlantic Regional Vice President of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges (AMATYC). beginning January 1, 2020, and ending Dec. 31, 2021.

He has been teaching at NCC for almost fifty years. In 1985, he was honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award. He is the author or co-author of six textbooks on mathematics, including algebra and trigonometry. He was principal investigator (PI) or co-PI on over twenty five grants totaling more than $2 million.

In addition to AMATYC, he is a member of the Mathematics Association of America, the Eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware section of the MAA and the Pennsylvania State Mathematics Association of Two-Year Colleges.

Ross receives white coat

Kathryn Ross of Bethlehem received a white coat during the Bloomsburg University Department of Nursing’s sixth annual Nursing White Coat ceremony Sept. 14. The coat represents the nursing degree program sophomore’s entering the next phase of her education. She also received a lapel pin from the Arnold P. Gold Foundation.
