Public Library of Catasauqua: Library programs — some familiar, some brand new
Boo! Yes, it’s that time again. Join us at the library for our third annual spooktacular event 6 p.m. Oct. 28.
Those awesome storytellers, Ingrid Bohn and Karen Maurer from Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild, will be with us once again. The storytelling starts with family-friendly stories that lead into some chills and thrills for an older audience. Younger folks will have their own fun with stories just for them in the children’s room. Come in costume!
On Oct. 31, the library will have treats for everyone 2-5:30 p.m.
Remember, the library has storytime for 3- to 5-year-olds set for 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday.
On the first Tuesday of each month, storytime becomes a blocks party with free play for children with hundreds of shapes and figures to stimulate the imagination of young minds.
The library is pleased to announce that beginning in November, there are two brand-new programs for adults we think you are going to enjoy.
Stop by for the Color Your World program Tuesdays 1 p.m., starting Nov. 5. The library will supply colored pencils and coloring book pages for you to channel your inner artist. Coloring is an excellent activity to stimulate all those positive centers of your brain. Relax, color and think good thoughts!
Beginning Nov. 6, on the first Wednesday of every other month, the library will be showing the movie version of a popular book beginning 5:30 p.m.
Come Nov. 6 for “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” the story of the keepers of Warsaw Zoo who saved hundreds of people and animals during the Nazi invasion, based on the book by Diane Ackerman.
Don’t forget the Keep Me In Stitches group meets 5:30 p.m. every Monday evening. Join us if you enjoy knitting, crocheting and needlework.
On a much different note, but an important one, the library staff is always available to help you navigate the Internet. The library subscribes to a wide variety of electronic resources to help you with your information needs.
Of particular interest to our Catasauqua Area School District students is Brainfuse, an online homework helper that includes a live chat feature with an experienced subject teacher.
Congratulations are in order to four local authors! Catasauqua High School graduate Jill Schafer, writing as Jillian Boehme, has just published “Stormrise,” her first young adult novel.
“I’m so thankful for my warm, small-town roots here in Catasauqua and especially for Miss Barbara Taylor, who nurtured tiny author me all those years ago,” Schafer said.
Craig Seyfried recently published “Dad’s Journal, A Naturalist’s Guide to a Wonderful Life,” and Jim Scorzelli and Gloria Fetter recently published “The Murder of King Tut, a Novel.”
And to local historian Martha Capwell Fox, congratulations on the publication of her latest nonfiction book, “Geography, Geology, and Genius: How Coal and Canals Ignited the American Industrial Revolution.”
The library is happy to say copies of all four works have been added to our collection.
