Harriers ready for leagues, districts
Northampton’s cross country teams wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 8, against Becahi, Easton, Freedom, Liberty and Nazareth.
It was another successful day for both teams. Both the boys and girls finished the season with winning records for the second-consecutive season. The girls finished the season at 13-4, while the boys finished 12-5.
The girls were once again led by Georgia Wiswesser, Amber Poniktera, Brianna Tyler, and Olivia Rigo.
Madison Berger, Reia Sanchez, and Ellie Spencer rounded out the varsity lineup on the day.
The boys battled and were led by Owen Nahf, Vince Gallagher, Wyatt Poniktera, Johnny Breslin, and Nick Amato. Nico Quinones and Evan Dempsey also had a good days as they have stepped up the last two races.
“Unfortunately, the boys have been dealing some injuries and have been running without two of our top four runners – Zeke Colyer and Isaiah Tyler, but the team has really stepped up over the last few weeks without them to really run well,” said Benner. “We now head into our postseason meets over the next two weeks.”
The EPC Championships are Tuesday, Oct. 15, and the District XI Championships are Wednesday Oct. 23. Both meets will take place at DeSales University.
On the team’s second last regular season meet of the season against East Stroudsburg North, East Stroudsburg South, and Stroudsburg, it was a successful day as both the boys and girls went 3-0 on the day against those teams. That brought the overall records of the boys to 11-1 and the girls to 10-2 as of last week.
“We raced at Nazareth’s home course, which is always fast, so it was a very exciting day for the runners as there were many personal best times achieved,” Benner said.
