Girls soccer preps for postseason tournaments

The Northampton girls soccer team will be getting ready for the upcoming league and district playoffs thanks to finishing their season with an overall 12-5-1 record, which included a 10-5-1 mark in the EPC.

The EPC playoffs are slated to get started Saturday and the Kids could be seeded around the seventh seed with a road game in the first round.

“We are looking forward to the EPC and district tournaments knowing all teams begin 0-0 and everyone is dangerous,” said head coach Michael Missmer. “We are excited to have made the tournaments but the girls are well aware making them isn’t the goal.”

Abbi Czarnecki led the team in goals with 18 this season, adding 13 assists and was the Kids top scorer. Isabella Nota scored 13 goals and added six assists while Raine Korpics tallied 11 goals and six assists. Alex Benedict chipped in with seven goals and a team-high 15 helpers this season.

The girls ended their regular season with a thrilling 3-2 win over Nazareth. Czarnecki scored the go-ahead goal with just 19 seconds remaining as the Kids picked up their 12th win. It was part of a two-goal game for Czarnecki. Benedict scored the Kids other goal on the day and added two assists, including on the game-winner. Czarnecki assisted on Benedict’s goal.

Olivia Vajda made 21 saves in goal to earn the win.

On Oct. 4, the Kids rolled by Central 6-0.

Czarnecki scored three goals and added an assist while Madison Eisenhart scored twice and added two assists. Raine Korpics added a goal in the win.

Nota and Benedict added assists and Vajda made 11 saves for the shutout win.

“After beating Central and Nazareth in our second meetings the players see their improvement over the regular season,” Missmer said. “We have scored on every team in the league, nearly 80 goals in the regular season, and know we can break a game open at anytime.”

After such a successful season in his first year, Missmer is looking to drive home this is now the standard for Northampton soccer.

“With this being my first year with the team it’s important to show them that postseason is not only always the goal - but the expectation from this point on,” said Missmer. “The players have worked very hard and sacrificed a lot as high school students involved in our program. Postseason is where these exceptional student-athletes have the opportunity to get a reward for all the hard work they have put in and all the sacrifices they have made.”

The girls battled Parkland tough but fell 2-1 on the road. Korpics scored for the Kids on an assist by Nota.
