EHS girls tennis competes in EPC Tournament

Evidence of the improvement of the Emmaus girls tennis program was on display during last week’s EPC Tournament.

Jocelyn Chow played focused and fundamentally sound tennis to claim third place in the number two singles competition. Two other Green Hornets, the doubles duo of Ivory Gao and Payton McGlory, earned third-place honors in number three doubles competition.

“We are a young team,” said Hornet head coach Robert Dragotta. “They played well and overcame their nerves.”

Chow defeated Central Catholic’s Megan Nicchwiadowicz 8-3 in the number two singles consolation final, while Gao and McGlory defeated Freedom’s Gabriella Barndt and Anna Isbell 8-6 at number three doubles.

The doubles team of Shelby Carter and Teya Gougoustamos earned a fourth-place finish after losing to the Bethlehem Catholic duo of Siobhan Koons and Grace Hartman in four doubles.

The remainder of the Green Hornet squad lost their first round matches.

In looking ahead to district competition, Dragotta is optimistic.

“Districts are a chance for our girls to play against and watch the best girls in the district,” he said.

Parkland won the EPC Tournament, claiming championships in the number one and three singles matches, and sweeping all three doubles titles.
