Coplay planning old-fashioned Christmas
At its workshop meeting Oct. 1, Coplay Borough Council announced it is doing some tentative planning for an old-fashioned Christmas at Community Plaza.
“We want to have a celebration that is put on by the Community Days committee. Maybe we can spur the same kind of interest that we have for our summer festival,” Councilman Stephen Burker said.
The tentative date is Nov. 22, the unofficial start of the shopping season.
In other business, residents came to the meeting to address some neighborhood disputes.
Last month, there was concern about parking along Coplay Street. Parking spots are reportedly jammed with employees of the nearby sports business, and residents say they do not have space to park.
“We are forced to walk a block and a half,” one resident said to council members. “Let them walk. They are a lot younger.”
Another resident expressed concern with a property issue. The person claimed a neighbor does not respect his property. The complaint had previously been with snow placed in the street but is now about leaves being blown into his yard.
Council members said they will address it.
On the lighter side, the library received contributions from State Farm for $500.
And just to prove neighborliness begins with your neighbor, Dan and Heather Reph, of Reph’s Complete Auto Repair, held a celebration to commemorate the five-year anniversary of their award-winning automobile service center at 102 S. Second St. They donated the money they collected from the event to Coplay Public Library. The donation was $600.
Giant Food Store gave a $25 gift card for the library’s book and bake event, set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 4 and 5. Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer extended an invitation to the community. This weekend’s event is one of the library’s largest fundraisers.
