Harries continue their 2019 success
It was a successful day for both the boys and girls teams as they both finished 7th overall at the Council Rock Invite on Saturday, Sept. 21. There were a total of 22 boys teams and 18 girls teams, consisting mostly of District 1 schools, according to head coach Dan Benner
“With the quality of teams that were there, it was a great confidence boost to run as well as we did,” Benner said.
There were six medal winners on the day. They were: Georgia Wiswesser (5th), Amber Poniktera (8th), Brianna Tyler (24th), Zeke Colyer (13th), Vince Gallagher (25th), and Owen Nahf (27th).
Other varsity boy runners on the day were Isaiah Tyler, Wyatt Poniktera, Johnny Breslin and Nick Amato. Other varsity girl runners were Olivia Rigo, Noelle Eisenreich, Carley Maldonado and Madison Berger.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, both teams had meets at Pocono Mountain East against Pocono Mountain East, Pocono Mountain West and Pleasant Valley. Both the boys and girls went 3-0 on the day against those teams. “Considering we had a tough meet the previous Saturday, the team ran well. Obviously, it is always nice to go 3-0 on the day,” Benner said.
This brings the boys record to 8-1 and the girls record to 7-2 overall on the season.
The next meet will be next Tuesday, Oct. 1, against Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South and East Stroudsburg North. The meet will take place at Nazareth Intermediate school.
PERSONAL BEST ... Another note from Saturday saw runner Caige Eisenhart, a first-time cross country runner, break the 30-minute mark. Eisenhart has shaved about nine minutes off his time from his first race this season through Saturday’s race. While his name may not appear at the top of the results list, Eisenhart’s teammates realized his accomplishment and cheered him on and carried him in the air after the race.
Benner appreciates the fact this team is a close-knit one.
“Overall, we have a great group of kids who love running and support all of their teammates all the way through the end,” Benner said.
