Whitehall Township Mayor Michael Harakal Jr. awarded commendations to two Whitehall Township lifeguards Aug. 22 for their quick response to a child in distress.
Lifeguards Abby Pastir and Taylor Levan spent their summer working at Cementon Pool. On the afternoon of Aug. 10, they observed a young girl, Gianna Miller, in distress in the grass area. The lifeguards jumped into action, providing lifesaving actions to help the 1-1/2-year-old.
Other lifeguards involved in swimming- related saves this summer include Teresa Nappo, Ella Holmes, Jacob Busch, Michael Nguyen and Sarah Jones, from Cementon Pool; Madeline Wickel, Brianna Peacock and Bella Hoffman, from Jefferson Pool, Fullerton; and Derek Hockenberry and Ben Antonchak, from Parkview Pool, Hokendauqua.
