Ready for the Party in the Park?

The 39th annual Coplay Community Days festival kicks off Aug. 23 with a concert by the much-loved local band The Aardvarks.

Set for 6-10 p.m., the performance will be held on the Miller Lite Stage, located at Coplay Parkway, Second and Keefer streets.

There is no admission or parking fee for the three-day event, which is run by an all-volunteer crew. There is also no cover charge for any of the six concerts taking place throughout the weekend.

The festival will be held rain or shine. Event hours are 5-10 p.m. Aug. 23 and noon- 9:30 p.m. Aug. 24 and 25.

A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase. Samuel Owens Beer Garden offers a place to relax.

No outside coolers or food are permitted.

Two bands will take the stage Aug. 24: Craig Thatcher Band 2-4 p.m. and Joyous - a 10-piece funk, R&B, high-energy dance band - 6-9:30 p.m.

Radio personality Joel from 99.9 The Hawk’s morning show will be at the event 3:30-5:30 p.m. Aug. 24.

The borough’s Parkway Pool offers free swimming Aug. 24 and 25.

Aug. 25 is Family Day at Community Days.

The entertainment begins with Josef Kroboth & Friends, Walt Groller and the Button Box Committee 12:15-3:30 p.m.

Face painting by Tootsie the Clown will be offered 1:30-3:30 p.m.

Michael Sherer, performing oldies, will take the stage 3:45-5:30 p.m.

A family splash and dance party will be held 1:30-4 p.m. at the pool. Deejay Freddie Fredericks Jr. will handle the entertainment.

A free aqua Zumba class, led by Tara Miller, is planned for 4-5 p.m.

Bringing the festival to a close will be The Large Flowerheads 6-9 p.m.

Giant Food Stores is the primary event sponsor.

Band sponsors include, at press time, Ace Fence & Railing, American Container & Dumpster, American Club of Coplay, Coplay Borough, Daku’s Auto Body Shop, First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union, Lehigh Valley International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 375, Lehigh Valley Press, Miller Lite, Reph’s Complete Auto Repair Inc., Samuel Owens Restaurant & Bar and Teamsters Local 773.

All proceeds benefit local civic organizations. In the past nine years, Coplay Community Days has funded more than $100,000 toward community projects, according to Steve Burker, event organizer and borough councilman.
