Congresswoman Susan Wild, D-7th, was the keynote speaker at Zion’s “Liberty Bell” United Church of Christ Declaration of Independence Sunday.

The annual event commemorates the reading of the Declaration of Independence in front of the church on July 8, 1776.

Eleven bells were brought from Philadelphia in 1777 to prevent the British from melting them down to be made into cannons.

The bells were hidden under the floorboards of Zion Reformed UCC.

Among those bells was State House Bell B, now known as the Liberty Bell.
