Richard “Dick” R. Hamscher, 85, of Coplay, died June 17, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospice, Lower Saucon Township. He was the husband of Marie (Deutsch) Hamscher for 61 years.
Born in Emmaus, he was a son of the late Russell and Irene (Miller) Hamscher.
He was a 1951 Emmaus High School graduate, where he was a multisport athlete.
He was an U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He worked for Coca-Cola and the Tasty Baking Company. He signed a professional baseball contract.
He was a baseball coach for Coplay Sports, Coplay American Legion and Coplay Tri-Boro teams.
He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Coplay.
He was an active member of both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars groups.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rick and his wife Jill and Greg and his wife Jeanine; two sisters, Joanne Brey and Jacqueline Crocus; nine grandchildren, Michael, Brittany, Matthew, Brooke, Taylor, Marcus, Whitley, Zachary and Andrew; and two great-grandchildren, Brielle and Maisie.
He was predeceased by a son, Michael; a brother, Gerald; and a sister, Jane Zimmerman.
Arrangements were made by Brubaker Funeral Home Inc., Coplay.
