Trojans’ run ends
In the end, the Parkland softball season came down to one bad inning.
It was the second inning of its PIAA quarterfinal game against Spring-Ford. The inning saw the Rams score four times and bang out five of their seven hits in the game en route to a 4-1 win, which ended Parkland’s season at 25-3.
The inning came down to three key hits, an RBI double, a lined single and a bloop single that did most of the damage, bringing home two runs in the inning.
When all of the damage was done, Parkland was down 4-0. From there, Trojans pitcher Kelly Dulaney returned to her heroics and kept Spring-Ford (26-1) off the board the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, the Parkland offense looked to bounce right back in the top of the third. Gianna Schick led off with a double and moved over to third on a base-hit from Caroline Rivera. Nicole Klass delivered an RBI double to put the Trojans on the board.
Parkland looked to mount rallies in each of the next two innings. With two outs in the fourth, Hailey Druckenmiller and Schick delivered back-to-back singles, but pitcher Brianna Peck came through with a strikeout to end the inning.
The following inning, Rivera ripped a one-out double, but the Rams got a line-drive double-play to end the inning and preserve their 4-1 lead.
Ali Superka also drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but again, Peck stiffened to get the final out of the game.
“Our kids didn’t quit until the very last out and as a coach, that’s all you can ask for,” said Trojans head coach Barry Search. “It was a good game and both teams played hard.”
The Trojans were without a key player in outfielder Renee Snyder, who missed the game due to a concussion, which she suffered in the first-round of states against Conestoga.
