Area man going to med school

WILKES UNIV.

Harrison Eckert, a senior biology premedical and Spanish major at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, was accepted into Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Eckert, from Orefield, will be studying in the doctor of osteopathic medicine program.

MT. St. Mary’s

Kaitlyn Heintzelman of Schnecksville earned dean’s list honors for the fall 2018 semester at Mount St. Mary’s University, Emmitsburg, Md.

Heintzelman, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Heintzelman, earned the award by maintaining a 3.4 GPA or higher.

Albright

Anika Moralis of Kutztown and Olivia Hugosson of Allentown are recipients of the $12,000 annual Founders Scholarship to Albright College, in Reading.

Albright College awards these scholarships to high school students who rank in the top 5 percent of their graduating class. Students must also demonstrate strong leadership skills and a commitment to service.

Moralis, a 2019 Northwestern Lehigh High School graduate, is interested in studying women’s and gender studies, and pre-law in college.

Hugosson, a soon-to-be Parkland High School graduate is interested in studying international relations in college.

Students learn about leadership

Emily Bernfeld of Breinigsville and Kara Hortner of Allentown recently participated in the LeaderShape program sponsored by Delaware Valley University, Doylestown.

LeaderShape Institute is recognized nationally as one of the premier leadership development programs for students.

LeaderShape and DelVal partnered to host a session in January in Lancaster County.

James Madison

Three local students - Harrison Hall of New Tripoli, Caitlin Carlson of Schnecksville, and Nicolette Chuss of Fogelsville - were named to the fall 2018 president’s list at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, Va.

Students who earn president’s list status must be carrying a full-time course load of graded credit hours and earn a GPA of 3.9 or above.

Lehigh

Fall graduates are announced

Travers Schmidt of New Tripoli, and Chelsea Rivenbark and Jillian Szilagyi of Allentown, graduated in fall 2018 from Lehigh University, Bethlehem.

Schmidt graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree and a major in supply chain management.

Susquehanna

Joseph Harps of Allentown was named to Susquehanna University’s dean’s list for the fall 2018 semester.

Harps, a graphic design major, is a 2016 graduate of Parkland High School, and the son of Jane Harps.

The dean’s list recognizes students who achieve a GPA of 3.4 or higher for the semester.

To qualify, students must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours.

Kutztown: Jennifer Dries, Associate in applied science in communication design: print/web; Tyler Safi, Associate in applied science in accounting.

Champlain

Student named to president’s list

Alexander Marvi of Allentown was named to the Champlain College president’s list for the fall 2018 semester.

Marvi is majoring in computer networking and cybersecurity.

Students on the president’s list have achieved a grade-point average of 4.0 or higher during the semester.

Champlain is a private college in Burlington, Vt., with additional campuses in Montreal, Canada, and Dublin, Ireland.

U. of alabama

Briana Jurta and Olivia Stansbury of Orefield were to of 12,332 full-time undergraduate students named to the dean’s list with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0, during the fall 2018 term at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Jurta was named to the dean’s list. Stansbury was named to the president’s list.
