Like most top-tier high school sports programs, Parkland’s baseball team seems to reload every season. No matter how many great players graduate, there seem to be more waiting in the wings.
Next season the Trojans will have to replace nearly a dozen players, however the few they have returning will provide a solid foundation.
Parkland’s roster has 11 seniors, which will provide a big hit looking ahead to next season. There will be just three starting players – Jeremy Piatkiewicz, Blake Barthol and Jared Kucharczuk – returning for next season. Pitcher Adam Smith and reliever Koby Staivecki will also not be back next spring.
“Adam Smith was a two-year starter at shortstop and he transitioned to pitching because we needed him to pitch and he’s going to be a huge hole to fill as a person and a player,” said Parkland head coach Kurt Weber. “We lose 11 guys and the Ervolinas and the Jenkins and the Webbers, they’ve really played good baseball and done everything we asked them to do. Staivecki the same way.
“It’s always tough to see them go and most of those guys are going to be playing in college, so it’s nice to follow their career and hopefully, they showed the younger guys how to do it. Next year we come back with a different cast of characters and try to get after it.”
