Local resident earns research prize

Zachary Prebosnyak of Bethlehem presented, on April 26, at Bloomsburg University COST Research Day, a research project called “Smart Devices and Dumb Criminals.” The entry earned a Top Prize in Undergraduate Mathematics or Digital Sciences-Based Research.

He joined more than 80 students from 11 fields of study in showcasing their work in the Andruss Library throughout the day on a wide range of topics, from Cosmic Ray Activity at the Dusk of the 24th Solar Cycle to Evaluating the Neurological Phenotype of 15q13.3 Deletions.

Cedar Crest inducts alumnae into Hall of Fame

Every three years, the Cedar Crest College Alumnae Hall of Fame pays tribute to alumnae who have distinguished themselves in their professional or personal lives and have demonstrated support for the college.

The new Class of 2019 life members are Dr. Blenda J. Wilson ’62, recognized for her pioneering spirit and inclusive leadership; Dr. Martha “Marty” Schaeffer Tennille ’64, for a lifetime dedicated to teaching and service; 12-time Emmy Award winner Andrea Joel ’72, for her set designs; Attorney Amelia M. Wagner ’78, for her dedication to the college and protection of the environment; the recipient of several military awards, Captain Christine Boltz ’80, for exemplary service to her country; the first male graduate in Cedar Crest’s history, Samuel Miranda Jr. MS, RN, NEA-B.C. ’81, t for excellence in nursing care and leadership; and Dr. Lorraine Amory Soisson ’88, for significant contributions to malaria research.

Residents inducted into leadership society

Bethlehem area residents Mckenzie Eisenreich, Victoria Seery and Ivy Sheriff have been inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success as part of the spring 2019 class at Kutztown University.

To be chosen, students must attend an orientation, a three-hour leadership training seminar, three success networking team meetings and three speaker broadcasts featuring leading figures delivering success-related messages to members.

Bethlehem residents earn nursing awards

Northampton Community College recognized several Bethlehem area students at an awards convocation on April 25. The students and their awards are Tracy Beck-Briggs, Bethlehem Women’s Club Nursing Award; Caileen Rose Dollard and Julio Justin Hernandez, Honors Program Awards; Kassandra L. Nunes, Institute of Management Accounting Award; Taina Esperanza DeJesus, Pan African Caucus Educational Scholarship; Winter G. Goodman, Sandra Preis and George Jain-Cocks Endowed Mathematics Award; and Daniel G. Stevens, Newman Civic Fellows Award.

Local resident named ‘Student Employee’

Keys Program employee Rachelle St Pierre, from Bethlehem, and four other Northampton Community College students were named 2019 Student Employees of the Year.

The award is given to exceptional student employees whom supervisors nominate based on their performance on the job. Nominations are judged on the following characteristics: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism, and the uniqueness of the student’s contribution to the employer.

Other honorees included Jessica Ramos, Student Life and Leadership Development, Donique Tate, Allied Health and Sciences Dean’s Office - Nursing Department; and Alicia Cruz and Denisha Odom, from Residence Life.
