Frank J. Spanitz
Frank J. Spanitz, 88, of Whitehall, died April 14, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. He was the husband of Anna (Simon) Spanitz for 64 years.
Born in Whitehall, he was a son of Frank P. and Mary (Kutchera) Spanitz.
He was a 1948 graduate of Coplay High School, where he played baseball, basketball and football.
He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was a member of the Army post baseball and basketball teams in Europe.
He worked in grounds and carpentry at Saucon Valley Country Club until he took retirement. He worked earlier in life at Exide Battery, Allentown, for 36 years.
He was a member of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church and was a member of the Golden Agers.
He was a life member of the Fullerton Fire Company No. 1 and of the West Coplay Maennerchor. He was a member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367. He was a president of the St. Elizabeth Athletic Association and coached baseball and basketball. He coached Connie Mack and American Legion Baseball with Fullerton Athletic Association and football with the Fullerton Ramblers.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeff and his companion Antoinette of Whitehall and Frank and his wife Marci of Allentown; a grandson, Evan and his fiancee Aubrey; a nephew, John Spanitz; and three nieces, Denise Bodish, Terese Haas and Danette Koons.
He was predeceased by a brother, John.
There will be a viewing 9-10 a.m. in the church foyer, followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10 a.m., April 25 at the church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall, 18052.
