Parkland wins four straight

The Parkland boys volleyball team has been on a roll lately in conference play.

After winning their first two matches of Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action, the Trojans suffered a setback against defending District 11 champion Emmaus. But they bounced back by winning the next three league matches and were primed to make it four Monday against Allen.

“We’ve seen multiple guys step up each night,” said Trojan head coach Scott Trumbauer. “We needed to make some adjustments to our lineup due to some guys not being available, and it helped some of the new guys get court time and gain some experience.

Going five sets with Liberty and Nazareth, and winning both of those matches have been a huge confidence builder for our team.”

The Trojans were back on the court in EPC play and were able to defeat Allen in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-16 Monday evening at Allen High School.

The match win came at a good time for Parkland (6-1 overall, 6-1 EPC) as it was coming off a tough weekend of competition in the Koller Classic last weekend at Central York High School.

“The Koller Classic didn’t go as we would have liked, but again, it’s all about the learning process,” Trumbauer said. “We had a tough pool, including the host and eventual champion Central York and arch-rival Emmaus, so there weren’t any easy matches all day.

“We started a little slow and never seemed to get our traction. Everyone got considerable time on the court that day so hopefully we can lean on those experiences as we get ready for the second half of our schedule and playoffs.”

Parkland did not have an easy time with the Canaries (1-9, 1-7), but still took care of business in straight sets. And it helped that it was back to full strength in this one.

“Now that we have everyone back in the lineup, we are just trying to get comfortable with our original lineup again,” said Trumbauer. “Everyone got time on the court again, but I think we did a nice job with the little things, like communication, closing our blocks and swinging aggressively. All of those things have been the sources of our issues against Emmaus, so I expect us to continue improving on those things to be even better moving forward.”
