Polka for Parkinson’s

St. Luke’s University Health Network sponsored Polka for Parkinson’s, an afternoon of fun, camaraderie, education and healing April 7 at Musikfest Cafe.

The event featured old world polka and waltzes by the Josef Kroboth Quartet, Button Box Committee and accordion player Walt Groller.

Medical Director of St. Luke’s Movement Disorders Center Dr. Aaron Lasker stated that polka dancing can actually slow the progression of the progressive brain disorder. It typically strikes mostly men in their 60s and 70s but may occur earlier in life, such as with actor Michael J. Fox. April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness Month.

SLUH among ‘world’s best’

St. Luke’s University Hospital, Bethlehem and Allentown campuses, has been named one of 250 American ‘World’s Best’ hospitals by Newsweek magazine. Of the 11 based in Pennsylvania, St. Luke’s University Hospital was the only one from the Lehigh Valley.

The inaugural ranking was designed by Newsweek and Statista Inc., a global market research and consumer data company. Hospitals were evaluated using data from three sources: peer recommendations ( online survey conducted among tens of thousands of doctors, health care professionals and hospital managers in 11 countries) hospital patient experiences; and medical KPIs (e.g. date on quality of treatment, hygiene measures).
