Pates fall to Emmaus

Freedom’s tennis match against Emmaus could have gone either way in most matches, but in the team score, it went the way of the Hornets, 6-0, last Thursday at Freedom.

In singles play, Justin Szaro lost to Sean Jaeger, 1-6, 0-6, Paras Chand lost to Quinn Erk, 5-7, 6-7, and Advay Desmukh lost to Aiden Springs, 6-4, 4-6, 3-6.

Chand’s two set match took almost as long as Desmukh’s three set match.

“The rallies were really long, especially at the very end, it escalated,” Chand said. “At the beginning I was ahead, 2-1, 3-2, 5-4. Throughout the whole match it was really close. It could have gone either way. I’d appreciate another chance, yeah.”

There was no clear cut reason why Springs won or Chand lost, but there

“[Assistant coach] John Wolmat, especially, gave me positive energy. When I started losing he gave me advice, like move back since he has deeper shots, and look like you’re ready to take the serves,” said Chand. “He hits really hard and he just has good form. His forehand is really strong, he knows placement, he knew how to volley at the net.

“Staying consistent was the key for me to win, so I feel like making him frustrated is the best way to make him lose more points. Especially my backhand and forehand, those were the big saviors of my game because I didn’t come up to the net that often since he hit really deep.”

In doubles play, Zach Chomitzky and Fahim Paiker lost to Grant Haffner and Kevin Ge at two doubles, 0-6, 0-6, Brian Gerra and Shivam Chand lost to Nick Gilboy and David Boukengolts at three doubles (score unavailable), and Tommy Potts and Dylan Sarkozy lost to Ali Ahmed and Johnson Yang at four doubles, 1-6, 6-1, 1-6.

“We all have that motivation to play tennis, and even though we lost, we showed our best strengths,” said Chand. “We’ve made so much improvement throughout the year, everyone is so consistent.”
