Kids beat Pocono E.

The Northampton boys varsity tennis team traveled to Pocono Mountain East High School in Swiftwater on Thursday, April 4, for an away game. The Kids bested PME by a score of 6-1.

Northampton claimed victory in two of three singles matches. Senior Andrew Hozza beat PME’s Caleb Grassi by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Hozza’s individual record now stands at 9-1 for singles play. Hozza has been enjoying a streak of 9 wins in a row with his only loss to Pleasant Valley coming in his first singles match of the season back on March 11.

Northampton’s Cameron Chuss also came away with a win as he bested Pocono Mountain East’s Justin Montes 6-0, 6-0. Chuss is also working on a strong individual record this season and is currently 6-2 in singles play.

Hozza and Chuss easily beat Grassi & Montes in one game of doubles play by a score of 8-0.

In other doubles matches, Northampton’s Danny Fox and Nick Hudak claimed victory over PME’s Brazzeau & Ahmed in two matches (6-2, 6-2). Northampton’s Max Venzke and Jacob Auger beat Nyber & Conway from PME (6-2, 6-1). Finally, making it a Northampton sweep of doubles play, Jake Flood and Sam Hanley beat PME’s Pellot and Maltese by 6-0, 6-1.

Northampton’s overall record now stands at 7-3 and in league play is 5-3.

Northampton Head Coach Daniele Bowman credits some of the team’s success to experience and atheism.

“They are a real seasoned group of guys,” said Bowman, “and just a great bunch. “They are all multisport athletes and they just work very well together.”

Bowman, a former Northampton varsity tennis player, was part of a Conference winning girls tennis team in her senior year. Bowman hopes to see the same result for this squad of Kids and with a winning record and a team that seems to have really come together well this year, they may just get their chance.

The Northampton team travels to Emmaus on Wednesday, April 10, for an away game against the 9-2 Green Hornets.
