Mary “Mitza” M. Filipovits

Mary “Mitza” M. Filipovits, 92, of Northampton, died March 31, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Joseph Filipovits.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Mulzet) Geosits.

She worked at Cross Country Clothes for 36 years.

She was a member of Queenship of Mary Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She sang on the Hungarian choir for 15 years and on the English choir for 10 years.

She was involved in the St. Peter & Paul Hungarian Society, Northampton Liederkranz, Northampton Exchange Club, Burgenlandische Gemeinschaft and Young at Heart groups. She bowled for 20 years at the Hungarian Hall.

She is survived by a daughter, Rosemarie and her husband James B. Shelanick; a grandson, Jimmy and his wife Wendy Shelanick; a granddaughter, Lisa Shelanick and her companion Giovanni Landi; four great-grandchildren, James and Tanner Shelanick and Tony and Ally Coonrod; a great-great-grandchild, Marshall Mellinger; a sister-in-law, Margaret Geosits; a brother-in-law, John Filipovits; and two nieces, Susan and her husband Douglas Hall and Stephanie Geosits.

She was predeceased by a grandson, Jeffrey Shelanick; a sister, Theresa Filipovits; and a brother, John Geosits.
