Area students accepted At Delaware Valley

Delaware Valley University is pleased to announce that the following Bethlehem area students have been accepted for admission at the University: Korinne Acevedo, Angela Burleigh, Gavyn Coleman, Leia Cottrell, Anthony D’Amico, Ryan Diehl, Georgia Giannaras, Emilie Hattrell, Domenico Italiani, Sarah Kovalchick, Thomas Manos, Aidan Redding, Zachary Teran-Wimer, Declan Thompson and Sarah Weeks.

Caitlin McCadden inducted

Caitlin McCadden, of Bethlehem, a student at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md., was inducted recently into the Delta of Maryland Chapter of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa national honor society at McDaniel College, Westminster, Md.

Almonte recognized by Widener

Freedom HS student Damian Almonte has been named by Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, for Outstanding Leadership and Civic Contributions, as a winner of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.

The program recognized him for making a difference by advocating for minority and LGBTQ students at his school and in the community. He is one of 163 students from high schools throughout the region selected for standing up for what is right, addressing a wrong and making a difference in their communities or schools.

Winners were invited to a celebratory program at the National Constitution Center on March 28, 2019, to a leadership conference in the fall of 2019

Brooks autobiography published

Uncertain Survival, an autobiography by Julia Brooks of Bethlehem, describes her parents’ courage and ingenuity in escaping the advancing Russian army as they were chasing the German army back to their home country at the end of the Second Word War.

The book depicts a marginal existence in Austria until her father discovered their whereabouts after the war’s end, moving to a displaced persons’ camp in a hostile post-war Germany and subsequent resettlement in the USA.

There will be book signings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 4 at the Moravian Book Store, 428 Main St.

Schultz inducted at Kutztown University

Karissa Schultz, of Bethlehem, was recently inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Kutztown University.
