Tennis picks up another victory

The Northampton boys tennis team furthered their winning record this Tuesday with a 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg North.

In a season that the boys have dedicated to their former coach and perhaps still their biggest fan, Kim Davis, the Northampton boys have achieved a 6-3 record overall and continue to make both their former and current coaches proud.

“They are a great group of kids,” said head coach Daniele Bowman. “They work hard at practice, everyone shows up and they just have great comradery between them; they all cheer each other on.”

In Tuesday’s contest against East Stroudsburg North, Northampton’s Andrew Hozza secured his eighth season win in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over East Stroudsburg’s James Brandes.

Northampton’s Cameron Chuss also claimed victory in the number-three singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over East Stroudsburg North’s Mark Rodrigues. Hozza and Chuss would go on to defeat Brandes and Rodrigues a second time in doubles play as the duo won 8-4.

The Northampton doubles teams claimed victory in every match on Tuesday. Winning teams included Danny Fox and Nick Hudak (6-0, 6-3), Max Venzke and Jacob Auger (6-2, 6-2) and Jake Flood and Sam Hanley (6-0, 6-0).

Looking forward, Bowman admits the team has some tough contests ahead with Emmaus, Nazareth and Parkland on their schedule, but the Kids aren’t letting tough competition get to them.

“We don’t really talk about other teams’ records,” said Bowman. “We just look at what we can do on any given day and we just play our game.”

Northampton travels to Pocono Mountain East High School in Swiftwater on Thursday for their next contest and then looks forward to facing Whitehall and Nazareth the following week.
