Liberty tops Becahi in softball action

Liberty’s softball team is currently 4-0 on the season after defeating Bethlehem Catholic, 8-3, on Monday at Liberty.

“I’m happy,” said Hurricane coach Sam Carrodo. “This team hits. I know we have the ability, but we made some mistakes, and we can’t do that against Freedom.”

Liberty will host Freedom this Friday.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Hawks with home runs by Alanysse Solomon and Kat Borda.

In the fourth inning, Tori Panik and Alexa Burger had base hits, and Sarah Curti reached on an error before Solomon’s two-run double.

“I was feeling anxious. I thought she was going to strike me out, and then I just hit it,” Solomon said. “I was really excited.”

The Hurricanes also had a big sixth inning with two doubles, one by Domonique Althouse and one by Julie Curti.

“I knew I had to give us more runs, more leverage, so I had to do what I had to do,” said Althouse.

Paige Zigmund was the winning pitcher.

“I think our offense is really strong, and that’s what’s helping us so much,” said Zigmund. “I think I’ve improved on my mental game, just taking my time and not getting frustrated as much.”
