Alfred “Fritz” Ignatz Sauerzopf

Alfred “Fritz” Ignatz Sauerzopf, 86, formerly of Whitehall, died March 9, 2019, at the Lakeview Community, Bloomingdale, Ill. He was the husband of the late Angela M. Sauerzopf.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Ignatz and Anna (Billowitz) Sauerzopf.

He was a William Allen High School graduate.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 in Fort Belvoir, Va.

He was a factory vice president at Dutch Maid Food Packing Company, his family-owned pasta manufacturing business. After it was acquired by Borden Foods, he became a regional sales manager with the company pasta division.

He was a parishioner at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, Whitehall.

He was active with local and global humanitarian organizations.

He is survived by a sister, Louise and her husband David Morris of Lancaster; four children, Maria Byerly of Attleboro, Mass.; Betina and her husband Robert Cregg of Glenview, Ill.; Michael and his wife Naomi of Houston, Texas, and Chris of Kutztown; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Anita Sauerzopf.

There will be a visitation 10-10:50 a.m. in the church foyer, followed by a funeral Mass 11 a.m. April 8 at the church, 618 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall.
