Depth is a strength for boys T&F team
The Parkland Trojans boys track team needs no introduction. Last year Troy was 11-0 and their goals for the 2019 campaign are just as ambitious.
“Our goal as in every season is to go undefeated, win the league championship and send a few athletes to compete at the state championship,” said Trojan head coach Scott Levan.
For most squads those would be lofty goals. For the Trojans, it’s an attainable mission. That’s because the Trojans are a machine.
Levan’s has been the Parkland boss for years, but he doesn’t do it alone. Assistant coaches Paul Steward, Doug Joseph, Jason Kremus, Andy Notereschi, Steve Ott, Will and Kelly Roberston, Ryan Kleintop, Mike Facchiano, Eric Troutman and Denise O’Connell comprise a knowledgeable and steady staff. Add the number of talented Parkland athletes competing for the Scarlet and Gray this spring, and the sky is the limit.
The Trojans will enter 2019 without graduates Juilian Colon, Habeeb Salau, Doug Marube and Adriel Montes. Top returnees include Mustapha Salau, Ese Duke and Sebastian Suriel. Also expected to make a significant impact this spring in the long triple and high jump is Adam Klinger and John Panny.
Some of Parkland’s top throwers include Adam Piston, Nicholas Dawkins, Dante Medlar, Christian Antry and Landon Pitts.
In distance races, senior Riley Williamson is a formidable Trojan weapon.
“Riley had some medical issues last year that prevented him from reaching peak performance,” said Ott. “I’m looking forward to him returning strong and leading the team to continued success.”
Rising Parkland stars include Nick Bower, Ben Esquires, Ethan Warren and Matthew Santacoloma. Bryan Dreisbach and pole vaulter Mitch Marciniak are two other newcomers who could surprise.
