Bobeck seeded first in two events
Defending champion Sarah Bobeck will lead the Salisbury swim team into this weekend’s District 11 Class 2A championships, which will be held Friday and Saturday at Parkland High school.
Bobeck earned district titles in the 50- and 500-yard freestyle events last year. This year, as a senior, she’ll swim the 200 and 100 freestyle events at districts.
In the 200 free, Bobeck is seeded first at 2:01.82, with Panther Valley’s Erika Zimmerman seeded second at 2:02.32. In the 100 free Bobeck is seeded first at 55.31. The second seed in 100 is Kylie Tohill of Pottsville at 55.34.
The Falcons also have three girls relays seeded in the top 10. The girls 400 freestyle relay is seeded third at 4:01.53. The girls 200 freestyle relay is seeded fourth at 1:50.05 and the 200 medley relay seeded seventh at 2:04.52.
Six other Salisbury girls earned their way to the district championship meet by qualifying in individual events.
Senior Cathryn Fitzsimmons is seeded sixth in butterfly at 1:11.06 and seeded 17th in backstroke at 1:14.72.
Sophomores Julia Graver (seeded eighth in individual medley at 2:30.28 and seeded 10th in breaststroke at 1:18.79) and Eliza Wiener (seeded 10th in IM at 2:37.63; seeded 10th in 500 free at 6:18.51) will compete in two individual events each.
Senior Madison Jewell also qualified for two events as she is seeded 11th in 200 freestyle at 2:17.26 and 11th in backstroke at 1:12.07.
Also qualifying for two events was sophomore Kerry Seiler, who is seeded 12th in 50 free at 29.01; 20th in 100 free at 1:03.74. Classmate Paige Gibbons is seeded 16th in 50 free at 29.01.
Salisbury had two boys qualify in individual events and will send a pair of boys relay teams to districts.
The Falcon boys 200 medley relay team is seeded sixth at 1:57.52, while the boys 200 freestyle relay seeded ninth at 1:53.32
Individually, sophomore Baxter Reihman is seeded 11th in butterfly at 1:02.10 and seeded 15th in 100 free at 55.0. Teammate Shane Artiz, a junior, is seeded 14th in 200 freestyle at 2:09.88 and seeded 17th in 500 free at 6:11.37.
Event winners from districts and other swimmers who post fast enough times will move on to the state championship meet, slated for March 13-14 at Bucknell University.
