Dale R. Baker
Dale R. Baker, 87, of North Whitehall Township, died Feb. 15, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of Margaret A. (Regec) Baker for 64 years.
Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late Robert O. and Edith (Dieter) Baker.
He was a 1949 Catasauqua High School graduate. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Kutztown University, attended Albright College and Michigan University for his principal’s certification and earned a Master of Education degree from Temple University.
He was in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and was aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga.
He was, for more than 20 years, the principal of Whitehall High School until he retired in 1993. Earlier, he was assistant principal at East Stroudsburg High School and also taught at Bangor High School.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was on the finance committee.
He was a life member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 367. He was a past president of the former Whitehall Exchange Club and was active with the Whitehall AARP.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jo Ann and her husband Robert Sheesley of Breinigsville and Carol Brandt and her husband Don Wilderotter of Northampton; two sons, Dale R. of Cicero, N.Y., and David A. and his wife Kris Ann of Wind Gap; eight grandchildren, Randi, Bryn, Sydney, Olivia, Sarah, Rachel, Michaelann and Connor; and three great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Remy and Robert.
He was predeceased by a son, Robert A.; and two brothers, Robert Jr. and Rodney Baker.
There will be a viewing 10 a.m., followed by services 11 a.m., Feb. 22 at the funeral home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall.
