LHS boys top Eastburg N

Liberty’s boys’ swim team celebrated senior night with a 82-67 victory over East Stroudsburg North last Thursday at Liberty.

“Senior night was amazing. So emotional too,” said Hurricane captain Dylan Zukawski. “I’ve been with these people for so long.”

Zukawski, Jake Evert, Jonathan Drago, and Sam Capwell won the 200 medley in 1:42.34 to start the boys’ events.

“When you have three guys you’ve been swimming with all your high school life, it’s definitely much more fun,” Zukawski said.

Freshman Patrick Gilhool won the 200 free in 1:58.59, Trevor Lenig was first in the 200 IM in 2:15.84, and Drago, Zukawski, and Capwell had a one, two, three finish in the 50 free. Drago’s time was 23.32.

Evert won the 100 butterfly in 54.96, Drago was first in the 100 free in 52.48, and Lenig took first place in the 500 free in 5:43.60.

In the 200 free relay, Andrew Layne, Sean McGuire, Jeffrey Eisenhardt, and Addison Collins had the best time with a 1:43.73.

Evert swam the fastest time in the 100 backstroke in 54.35, and Zukawski was fastest in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.06.

“That was my best time this year,” Zukawski said.

In the 400 free relay, Caleb Stein, Ben Service, Lenig, and Drago had the fastest time in 3:40.21, and Gilhool, Seth Coleman, Layne, and Capwell were right behind in 3:45.21.

“I think [relays] are very important for the team for filling out the people, and I think you can go faster in them because you have people with you,” said Coleman, “but I would rather have all individual events.”

Coleman also swam the 100 butterfly and 200 IM.

“I got my best time on [the 200 IM] by four seconds,” he said. “Right before the event, my coach [Reik Foust] gave me a new event plan- what you should sprint, what you should pace.”

This week will be the Hurricanes’ last meet of the regular season when they host Freedom on Valentine’s Day.

“I can’t wait,” said Zukawski. “I think that’s going to be one of our best meets. We always stack that lineup to have a lot of fun. It’s going to be great.”

Liberty senior boy swimmers who were honored on last Thursday’s senior night in addition to Zukawski were Capwell, Drago, Evert, and Wycherley, and senior boy divers Patrick Adams, CJ Van-Spanje, and Michael Vargas.

“All of them are definitely nice,” said Coleman. “Ryan [Wycherley] is definitely someone I talk to regularly, and I will miss him a lot. He’s like the quiet senior but he’s a good swimmer and a good friend.”
