Augustus C. Raabe Jr., 98, of Whitehall, died Feb. 4, 2019, at Heather Glen. He was the husband of Mary Raabe for 70 years.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Augustus C. Sr. and Florence (Faust) Raabe.

He studied painting at Cooper Union.

He was in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he operated radar.

He retired as a captain after 30 years of service with the New York City Fire Department. He was a Parkland School District bus driver for 10 years. He raised poultry and built cars and violins in his retirement.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Marilyn and her husband James Cornell, Susan and her husband Richard Kimmel and Judy and her husband Kurt Kelechava; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Alison and Matthew Cornell, Sarah and Jeffrey Kimmel and Erik, Alex and Brad Kelechava.
