Augustus C. Raabe Jr., 98, of Whitehall, died Feb. 4, 2019, in Heather Glen with his family by his side.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Augustus C. Sr. and Florence (Faust) Raabe.

He studied painting at Cooper Union, operated radar in the U.S. Navy during WWII, and retired as a captain after 30 years of service with the New York City Fire Department before retiring to Whitehall with his wife, Mary.

The couple raised poultry and he built cars and violins in the garage.

After retiring, he was a Parkland School District bus driver for more than 10 years. His intelligence, kindness and long meandering jokes will be missed by his beloved wife of 70 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters Marilyn, wife of James Cornell, Susan, wife of Richard Kimmel, and Judy, wife of Kurt Kelechava; grandchildren Andrew, Alison and Matthew Cornell, Sarah and Jeffrey Kimmel; and Erik, Alex and Brad Kelechava.
