LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Jahde says

Members of the Grundsau Lodsch Nu. 16 Am Jahden (Groundhog Lodge No. 16 on the Jordan) celebrated the annual Pennsylvania German tradition of looking for the groundhog’s shadow.

Jahde and nephew, Lee, traversed the frozen Jordan Creek near Wehr’s Dam at Covered Bridge Park, South Whitehall, Feb. 2 to reveal their prognostication for this year’s Groundhog’s Day celebration.

Though Punxsutawney Phil had predicted an early spring this year, Jahde was adamant there will be an additional six weeks of winter as he saw his shadow during the beautiful sunrise on the Jordan.

Even with temperatures hovering near zero, a friendly crowd showed up to see Jahde’s prediction and to hear Pennsylvania Dutch spoken.

Grundsau Lodsch Nu. 16 Haaptmann (President) Dave Adam of Orefield, led the ceremony.

And here they are: Jahde and Lee, ready to forecast the weather for the Lehigh Valley and the rest of the northern hemisphere. Additional photos appear on page A2.PRESS PHOTOS BY LOU WHEELAND Copyright - Lou Wheeland Photography
