William J. Wasley
William “Bill” J. Wasley, 87, of Fullerton and Whitehall, died Jan. 14, 2019, in the Terrace of Fellowship Community. He was the husband of the late Lois I. (Walsh) Wasley for 66 years.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late John and Mary (Ridall) Wasley.
He was a 1949 graduate of Coughlin High School.
He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the security detail during former President Eisenhower’s inauguration.
He worked at Bell Telephone, Bell Atlantic and Verizon for more than 36 years, until he retired as a supervisor in 1991. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fullerton, where he was on the consistory several times, was a former deacon and a Sunday school teacher.
He was a life member of the Fullerton American Legion Post 367 and of the Fullerton Fire Company No. 1. He was a past president of and a baseball, football and basketball coach for Fullerton Athletic Association. He was a judge of elections at the Jefferson Street polls for eight years.
He is survived by two sons, Bill Jr. and his wife Joanne and Scott and his wife Diane; a daughter, Judy and her husband Barrie Carr; five grandchildren, Shannon and her husband Nathan, Sean and his wife Jaimie, Matthew and his fiancee Connie, Nicholas and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, Reagan and Quinn.
He was predeceased by a brother, John Wasley Jr.
