John W. Groller, 81, of Mechanicsburg, and formerly of Coplay, died Jan. 17, 2019. He was the husband of the late Nina (Pitts) Groller.
Born in Coplay, he was a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Mills) Groller.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He was both an athletic and a Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) director for more than 40 years with the Department of Defense at Pax River, Md., Kings Bay, Ga., and the Navy Depot, Mechanicsburg.
He was a baseball player and was inducted into both the Pennsylvania and Maryland Sports halls of fame. He played shortstop for the Allentown Patriots.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mechanicsburg; the Coplay American Legion; and the Mechanicsburg Elks.
He is survived by two daughters, Vicki Brewer and Kim and her husband Donnie Pope; and two grandchildren, Kyle and his wife Hillary Brewer and Taylor Pope.
He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph.
There will be a graveside service 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Coplay Cemetery, North Ninth and Oak streets.
